How ‘Feeling Good’ Became My Secret to Loving My Body Again
Have you ever paused to consider how you feel in your body rather than how it looks? In a world obsessed with appearances, this simple yet profound shift in focus can transform not only your relationship with yourself but also your entire life.
For me, the turning point came in 2014 during a yoga class when the words “It’s not about how it looks – it’s about how it feels” hit me like a divine truth. That moment changed the trajectory of my life, leading me down a path of healing, self-love, and embodiment.
Let me take you on a journey into what this motto means and how you, too, can embrace this empowering perspective.
It’s Not About How It Looks – It’s About How It Feels
How you feel in your body is infinitely more important than how you look. Focusing solely on how you look is a trap—which from my own experience left me feeling like a shell of a person, hallow and depressed. When you shift to prioritizing feeling at home, safe, healthy, vibrant, and radiant in your own skin, everything else falls into place.
Your energy—how you move through the world, how you show up in your relationships, and how you treat yourself—is directly impacted by how connected you are to yourself and your body. When you shift your focus from external appearances to internal sensations, you reclaim your feminine power.
The feminine thrives in being-ness—in savoring, feeling, and embodying your essence. The masculine energy is all about doing and achieving, but the feminine is about how you do it. It’s the texture, flavor, and unique quality of your presence.
When you come home to your body, your heart, and your sensations, you unlock true confidence that radiates effortlessly. True sexiness comes from your being-ness, being authentic and being at home within yourself.
A Pivotal Moment in My Journey
In 2014, I found myself at a crossroads. I was torn between two paths: moving to New York City to continue to pursue a modeling career or staying in California to embark on a yoga teacher training.
On the surface, modeling seemed glamorous, but it came with a price. My focus was entirely on how my body looked—being thinner, weighing less, obsessing over measurements, tracking every calorie, and over-exercising. It was a toxic cycle of disconnection from my body.
Yoga, on the other hand, offered me something deeper: a chance to reconnect with myself, heal my relationship with food and movement, and embrace my cyclical, feminine nature.
During a yoga class, as I gazed into my own eyes in the mirror, the words “It’s not about how it looks – it’s about how it feels” came to me as if by God. I knew in that moment which path to choose.
I chose healing.
I chose to reclaim my aliveness.
I chose depth over surface-level beauty standards.
And I’ve never looked back.
Why This Motto Matters for You
This truth—“It’s not about how it looks – it’s about how it feels”—is your permission slip to choose yourself. To prioritize how you feel in your body over societal expectations. To adorn yourself in ways that elevate your frequency, not for external validation, but to honor the way you feel inside.
When you embrace this mindset, you reclaim your sovereignty, step into your feminine radiance, and reconnect with the essence of who you are.
Practical Ways to Come Back to Feeling
Here are some ways you can shift your focus from how you look to how you feel:
Practice Embodiment Rituals: Tune into and connect to your body through stillness or mindful movement—yoga, dance, or stretching.
Dress for Yourself: Adorn your body in ways that feel delicious and uplifting, regardless of anyone else’s opinions.
Nourish Your Body: Choose foods that make you feel nourished, energized and vibrant, not just what fits a certain calorie count.
Journaling Prompts: Reflect on what makes you feel most alive in your body. What activities, environments, or outfits make you feel good?
Trust Your Intuition: Learn to listen to your body’s wisdom—it knows what feels good and what doesn’t.
Conclusion
The way you feel in your body impacts everything in your life—from your energy to your confidence, and even your relationships. When you prioritize feeling good over looking a certain way, you unlock a deeper connection with yourself and your feminine power.
Let this be your reminder to come home to your body, your essence, and your heart. To trust yourself. To choose yourself.
How you feel in your body comes first. Everything else will follow.
With love,
Melissa
